23-year-old Jay Mingi was Stockport County’s first signing of the 2024/25 season, joining from Colchester United for an undisclosed fee.

A versatile, front-foot player capable of playing in midfield and in defence, the 23-year-old began his career in West Ham’s academy before going on to enjoy spells in League One with Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth.

He featured regularly in midfield at Portsmouth under manager Danny Cowley, and the pair went on to link up together again at Colchester in 2023.

Moving to the right of a back three, Jay became a key figure for the Us under Cowley as they lost just six times in their final 20 games of the campaign, to secure their EFL status on the final day of the campaign.

A particularly impressive performance against County in April caught the eye, with County moving quickly to secure his services in preparation for their return to League One.
