Meulensteen and Mangan form part of new-look coaching staff

Stockport County is pleased to confirm the permanent appointments of Joppe Meulensteen and Andy Mangan as part of Dave Challinor’s coaching staff for League One.

The appointments reflect an evolution of the coaching staff at Carrington and is in line with the overall strategy of team and player development, as we embark on the next chapter of football growth at County.

This move will see more specialised roles and allow for a greater amount of detail to be delivered in the planning, delivering and reviewing of training and preparation for matches. Clint Hill will retain the Assistant Manager role but all coaches will have an area of specialism related to their experience and skill set.

The structure will be as follows.

  • Dave Challinor – Manager
  • Clint Hill – Assistant Manager (Defending)
  • Andy Mangan – Assistant Coach (Attacking)
  • Dave Conlon – Assistant Coach (Player development)
  • Joppe Meulensteen – Assistant Coach (Analysis & Tactical)
  • Nick Colgan – Head of Goalkeeping
  • Matt Jansen – Individual finishing coach and player care

The club is delighted to welcome Joppe and Andy into their new roles.

First-Team Manager, Dave Challinor said:

“I’d like to welcome Joppe back to the club and Mangs in the continuation of a role, albeit under a new title.

“This sounds like a lot of change but in reality Joppe only left the club 8eight months ago and Mangs has been in with us since March last season, so it doesn’t feel like a huge overhaul from the inside.

“The key benefit of these roles is that they give real clarity, accountability and focus on specific areas of delivery and tactical overview, as we look to not only evolve and get better as a team in League One, but also add greater detail as to how we all improve as individuals to allow quicker progression on the pitch.

“I feel that this structure has the right people in the right area of strength and expertise, and gives us the opportunity to challenge, debate and come up with the correct answers as to how we develop.”

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“We are delighted with the progress to date, but we know for us to be successful in the next stage of our journey we must improve the team significantly. That can be done on an individual, unit or collective basis and the players will benefit from a focussed and dedicated team of coaching staff to support them.

“The nature of the football season, its many games, twists and turns, mean that a season can fly by, but we must take every opportunity we have with the players to improve their performance. You cannot underestimate the impact to a player of a coach that provides the time and care to improve them. By working with this structure and level of detail and quality, I am confident we will be able to find those moments, and those areas, that when delivered consistently will make the difference.

“Elsewhere, Head of Performance Analysis, Jordan Smith and Strength & Conditioning Coach, Tom Eastwood have both left the Club over the Summer. We would like to place on record our thanks to both Jordan and Tom for their efforts during their time at Edgeley Park, and for their contributions to our title success last season.”
