Manchester City midfielder becomes latest Summer signing

Stockport County is excited to announce the signing of midfielder Lewis Fiorini, who joins us from Premier League Champions Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

The Scotland U21 international took part in pre-season training with the rest of the first-team yesterday, after signing a three-year-deal with the club option of an additional year at Edgeley Park.

The talented attacking midfielder had been at Manchester City since the age of six and brings plenty of experience from successful loan spells overseas and in the EFL.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract with City in 2021 following an impressive season in the Eerste Divisie with NAC Breda, where he scored six and assisted five in 36 appearances for the Dutch club, who narrowly missed out on promotion that year.

He then went on to join Lincoln City in League One, playing 44 times under manager Michael Appleton and scoring a further six goals before following Appleton to Blackpool in the Championship the following season.

Having returned to City last Summer to undergo surgery, Fiorini then moved Charlton Athletic on loan in January where he linked up with Appleton for the third time in three seasons. On this occasion, however, the reunion proved short-lived with Appleton leaving the club just a few weeks after the Lewis completed his move to the Valley.

Whilst he represented England at Under 15s level alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and Cole Palmer, the technically gifted midfielder has since chosen to represent Scotland – featuring ten times for their U21s side, whilst he has previously spent time training with the senior side under Steve Clarke.

At just 22, we are delighted to have signed Lewis on a long-term contact and look forward to seeing him develop further during his time at Edgeley Park.

First-Team Manager, Dave Challinor said:

“Lewis is another player that we’ve had a longstanding interest in trying to bring in, so to finally have him is really pleasing. He had a frustrating season last year with some injuries but he’s a player with a really high ceiling and huge potential, who has trained with and learned from the best over his time at Manchester City.

“Technically he is fantastic, and he will undoubtedly be a huge addition to our squad. For a young player to have the experience he has in the Championship, League One, international Football and in another country is rare, and we feel he can have a real impact over the next few years.”

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“We are excited to bring Lewis to Edgeley Park on a long term contract. He is an exciting young player, with a high ceiling and will give us good options across the midfield. He suffered a difficult last 12 months but is proven at League One level and above, with a hunger to get going again. Spending time with him, I am confident he will add to our group as a down to earth, but driven player that players and staff will enjoy working with.”
