Loan update – August 2024

As County head into the September international break top of the table, we take a look beyond Edgeley Park to get an update on how our loan players are getting on so far, across the country and overseas.

Jid Okeke

Jid joined National League North side, South Shields on loan shortly after making his first-team debut for County, against Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

The 19-year-old picked was named Man of the Match for South Shields on his debut against Curzon Ashton, and has since started every game for the Mariners. In his six appearances, he has helped them to four wins, with valuable contributions from right-back both defensively and offensively.

Ashton Mee

Ashton joined South Shields on loan in pre-season and has performed well in the opening month of the league season. The 18-year-old has made seven appearances to date, and proved to be the match winner against Warrington Town with a well taken strike from 20 yards – his first professional goal. He has shown his versatility by playing in a range of positions in midfield, putting in assured performances wherever he has played.

Cody Johnson

Midfielder, Cody has joined King’s Lynn Town on loan in the National League North, starting seven times for them already this season and contributing towards a strong start that has them sitting in third place. He has put in some very mature displays from the base of their midfield, showing his ability in possession with his range of passing as well as defensively by breaking up attacks. The 19-year-old did, however, receive the first red card of his career on Tuesday night, picking up two yellow cards in a 0-0 draw with his former side, Scarborough Athletic.

Ethan Mann

20-year-old defender, Ethan moved to Edgeley Park in the Summer from Mickleover, and after featuring in the pre-season friendly win at Chester he has since joined Buxton on loan. Ethan has made a good start to life at Buxton, winning the first three games of the season and making the Vanarama National League North Team of the Week on opening day. In total, he has made five appearances at the heart of their defence and showed his importance to the National League North outfit.

Andrew Wogan

Having signed a long-term deal with County in the Summer, goalkeeper Andrew has continued his development by remaining out on loan at Drogheda United until the end of the League of Ireland season in November.

He has put in some good displays during his time there, producing a Man of the Match performance against table-topping Shelbourne recently to hold them to a 1-1 draw. He played a key role in the Summer as Drogheda won the Trivella Cup against Walsall, saving two penalties in a shoot-out victory. Andrew has also helped the club reach the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup, where they will face Athlone Town.

Joe Hillary

Joe Hillary signed his first professional contract with the Club this Summer, and has spent the first month of the season gaining his first exposure in men’s football with Hyde in the Northern Premier League – making two appearances for the Club in his time there. He has since returned to Edgeley Park following the conclusion of that loan spell.

Cian O’Shea

16-year-old goalkeeper, Cian O’Shea signed his scholarship in the Summer after progressing through our U16s side. Cian has had a varied games programme during his time with us, representing both our U18s, as well as newly promoted Stockport Town in North West Counties Premier Division. Cian has made four appearances for Town, winning 3 games and drawing the other, which included a clean sheet against Prestwich Heys, Town’s first at that level.

Cian has now joined up with the Republic of Ireland’s U19 squad, his first international call-up, where he will feature in the Slovenia Cup; taking on France, Kazakhstan and Slovenia.
