Kyle Wootton signs new deal

Stockport County is thrilled to announce that Kyle Wootton has signed a new three-year deal with the club, following two successful seasons at Edgeley Park for the striker.

Joining the club back in 2022 on a free transfer from Notts County, Wootton made his debut against Barrow on our return to the Football League and has since gone on to make 88 appearances for County, scoring 27 goals.

The 27-year-old finished as County’s top scorer in his first campaign with 14 goals, winning the Club’s Player and Players’ Player of the Year awards as the we narrowly missed out on promotion. He followed that up with a further 12 goals and 8 assists in 2023/24, helping County become Champions of League Two.

Wootton has already got off to an inspired start in League One, scoring once and grabbing two assists in the Hatters’ first two games against Cambridge United and Blackpool.

The big man has had a remarkable rise in football and with his new contract, extends his future to Stockport County until 2027.

First-Team Manager, Dave Challinor said:

“We are all delighted that Wootts has committed his future to the club. He’s a huge asset to our squad in terms of what he adds on and off the pitch. He’s been a model pro in his time with us, and has acted and performed consistently across that period.

“He’s started the season really well which hasn’t been a surprise because internally we know what he brings. An extension to his contract was a conversation started in the off-season about the club protecting assets and we certainly see him as one of those.

“This new deal for a player in his peak years gives all parties the necessary security as we move forward in this exciting new period together. This is great news for everyone, and we hope he continues to flourish in League One.”

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“Kyle has started the season very well, but this isn’t a reaction to that. It’s a conversation the staff have been having for a while about the attributes Kyle brings and how they are valued at this Club.

“Given all parties wanted to extend Kyle’s time at County, it was just about an agreement that was fair for all sides. That was reached very quickly, and we’ve been able to get this done without any drama or fuss.

“I’m delighted we are able to continue this journey together and see where it’s going to take us. We’re all in new territory, but with the right work and application- which this man has in spades – why should anyone put a limit on what can be achieved over the coming three years?”
