Goalkeeper Metcalfe recruited from Boro

Stockport County is pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Max Metcalfe, who joins us from Middlesbrough on a one-year development contract.

The 6’6 shot stopper had come through the academy at Boro, joining as an U15 and going on to feature regularly for their U23s side, penning his first professional contract with the Teesside club in 2021.

The 20-year-old has also gained first-team experience out on loan in recent seasons, during spells at National League North and National League level. He kept four clean sheets in nine appearances during his two-month loan at Spennymoor Town in the North, and featured for Fylde in the National League last season.

Max has previously represented Scotland at U19s level, and also previously attended several England training camps. He now joins our goalkeeping department for the 2024/25 season in League One to provide cover and competition for Ben Hinchliffe.

Head of Goalkeeping, Nick Colgan said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Max into our goalkeeping group at Stockport County. I’m very much looking forward to working with him over the coming weeks and months – he has all the attributes required to be a successful goalkeeper, we’re excited to see him continue his development with us.
