County Collective External Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Group

At Stockport County, we believe football is for everyone. It belongs to and should be enjoyed by anyone who wants to participate in it, whether as a player, official, staff member, volunteer, spectator or anybody who may access the Club’s facilities.

Encompassed through the principles of our equality campaign County Collective, Stockport County Football Club is driven by progression and the values of community, humility and togetherness, along with the belief that these values can empower people to lead better lives.

Following the launch of County Collective in September 2023, the Club is proud to announce plans to launch an external Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Group. We are actively seeking representatives to join this group.

Purpose
The role of the EDI Advisory Group is to:

  • Provide expert advice on EDI, under-represented and minoritised groups and developing good practice at the Club to encourage greater representation from diverse groups.
  • Provide a route to consult with people from different communities, to ensure input from people with a diversity of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress towards achieving the EDI outcomes, objectives and incremental targets set by the Club.
  • The EDI Advisory Group will complement the existing structure within EDI, which includes:
    • The EDI Internal Working Group, which is responsible for departmental delivery of the EDI Strategy.
    • The EDI & Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy Group

The Advisory Group will report directly to the EDI Lead Officer & EDI Board representative to ensure there is strategic oversight and the group’s work can achieve maximum impact across the club.

Members:
We are seeking a maximum of 10 members for the EDI Advisory Group. Candidates can apply via this application form.

Membership will be made up of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences who can offer a range of views and insights to the club and should reflect our broad and diverse communities. As such, having an interest in football is not essential. This will help the Club to fully understand the needs and barriers (real or perceived) faced by people who have may have, traditionally, found it difficult to engage with the Club and its activities, including in relation to employment opportunities.

Please note, members will not be expected to represent the Club as an official spokesperson at media or industry events.

Commitment:
We ask EDI Advisory Group members to participate in a quarterly meeting, of approximately two hours each. Members will be appointed on a one -year term, with the option to renew.

Stockport County Head of People, Ellie O’Connor said:

“We formed Stockport County’s EDI campaign, County Collective, last season and it is really important to us that we continue driving this forward as we move into the new season. As a Club, we really value the thoughts and opinions of our internal staff, our supporters and the local community. This external working group will play a pivotal role in the development of County Collective and our ongoing goal of creating an inclusive environment for all who visit Edgeley Park.”
