Referee Update: Toner selected for second leg at Edgeley Park

Referee Ben Toner is set to take charge of Saturday’s League Two play-off semi-final second-leg between County and Salford City, at Edgeley Park.

Toner has refereed County twice previously this season, overseeing our 5-0 win away at Hartlepool United back in December and a 0-0 draw at home to Gillingham in March. It will also be his third time refereeing Salford this season, having been in charge for the Ammies’ 1-0 win at Harrogate Town in September, as well as their 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Peterborough United.

The official has been officiating in the EFL since 2015, and took charge of 32 games across all competitions last season with the majority coming in League One and League Two. During that time, he showed 91 yellow cards, four red cards and awarded five penalties.

This year has seen him take charge of 38 games in all competitions, including the Papa John’s Trophy final between Bolton Wanderers and Plymoth Argyle. Over that period, he has show 119 yellows, four reds and pointed to the penalty spot ten times. His last game saw him take charge of Cambridge United’s 2-0 win over Forest Green Rovers on the final day of the League One season.

Toner will be assisted on the day by Graeme Fyvie and Dean Treleaven, whilst Darren Drysdale will be on Fourth Official duties.
